Welcome to Reception! On this page you can find some useful information about our class work in Phonics and Literacy, Maths and our Topics for each half term. We may also share pictures and news from other areas of learning and development across our EYFS curriculum. You will see below more detailed information on individual areas of learning, with links to support you and your child with their learning at home.

This half-term, in Literacy we will be focusing on the book, ‘The Journey Home’ by Hattie Peck. Also ‘Jack and The Beanstalk’ by Mara Alperin

We will also look at a variety of other books during our Topic time about a range of things including Spring weather, healthy and unhealthy foods, mini-beasts and their microhabitats and much more.

In maths, the children will take a look at concepts including time, focusing on days of the week and sequences of activities within their days.. They will build on their prior knowledge of numbers from 5 to 8 by delving into numbers 9 -10 and learning how to recognise and write the numerals, alongside finding any different ways to represent the numbers using physical resources or drawings. We will also be continuing to explore measurements as we look at the length and height and have a little peak at 3D shapes.

Our Current Topic for Spring 2 is, 'New Life’

Our afternoons will be filled with art, design, PSHE, RE, PE and music - wherever possible, it will link to our two curriculum texts 'Oliver's Vegetables', 'Animals in Spring' and 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar', whereby the children will explore lots of seasonal changes including spring vegetables, weather, life cycles and mini-beasts. The story of 'Oliver's Vegetable's' is a fun way to consolidate their days of the week learning and in 'Animals in Spring' we will begin to look at a range of different animal life cycles in preparation for some very special visitors arriving toward the end of the half-term.
