Through the teaching of systematic phonics, our aim is for all children to become confident, fluent readers by the end of Key Stage 1. The quality teaching of phonics will ensure that children have the skills to decode words, moving on to be able to read texts with fluency and comprehension. Our aim is to ensure that all children will then have the skills to succeed in other areas of the curriculum delivered at our school, and they will develop a love of reading. Progress is tracked half termly, ensuring children progress through the relevant phases. Attainment in phonics is measured by the Phonics Screening Test at the end of Year 1.
