A Steel Band workshop visited school and showed us how to make fantastic music with the Steelpans! We all got a turn and then they played some brilliant music for us to dance to.
We even started a Conga line in the hall!
What is a Steelpan Band?
Steelpans (also known as steel drums or pans, and sometimes, collectively with other musicians, as a steel band or orchestra) is a musical instrument originating from Trinidad and Tobago. Steel pan musicians are called pannists.
The steelpan or drum is struck using a pair of straight sticks tipped with rubber; Some musicians use four pansticks, holding two in each hand.
The pan is the national instrument of Trinidad and Tobago
